A first-time male Brazilian wax takes 30–45 minutes in a private suite. You undress from the waist down, lie on a cushioned table, and the practitioner applies hard wax in sections—front, underside, and between. The wax hardens in seconds and lifts off without strips. Most men describe the sensation as sharp but brief, and easier than they expected.

What happens before you arrive

Book your appointment at least 48 hours out. Hair should be a quarter-inch long—about three weeks of growth if you shave, two if you trim. Shower that morning and skip lotions or oils; clean, dry skin lets wax grip hair, not skin. Wear loose cotton briefs and soft pants for the drive home.

IFM is on Larrabee Street in West Hollywood, a quiet block north of Santa Monica Boulevard. You enter through a discreet street-level door. No waiting room full of strangers—your practitioner meets you in the suite.

The appointment itself

You undress from the waist down and lie on a padded table covered with fresh paper. A towel drapes your midsection until the practitioner begins. Rene' works in a sequence: pubic mound, shaft and scrotum, underside, and finally the area between the cheeks. He applies wax with a wooden spatula, waits a few seconds for it to set, then lifts it off in one motion against the direction of growth.

The process is methodical. Rene' asks you to hold skin taut in certain areas or shift position—knees bent, then one leg up, then the other. He works quickly. The entire Brazilian service runs 30 to 45 minutes depending on hair density and your comfort level.

"In 21 years I've seen every body type and every level of nerves. The men who do best are the ones who breathe normally and don't clench. Tension makes everything harder." — Rene', practitioner

Pain is subjective. Most men say the pubic mound stings the most because the skin is thinner and hair is coarser. The scrotum and perianal area feel sharper but briefer—fewer nerve endings, thinner hair. Between pulls, the practitioner trims stray hairs with scissors and tweezers any the wax missed. By the end, you are completely smooth.

What you feel afterward

Your skin will be red and slightly raised for two to four hours. That is normal. The redness fades fastest if you avoid tight clothing and hot water the rest of the day. Some men feel a dull tenderness, like a sunburn. Others feel nothing at all.

Do not apply deodorant, cologne, or scented lotion to the waxed area for 24 hours. Fragrance and alcohol irritate open follicles. Stick to unscented aloe or the post-wax serum Rene' recommends. Sleep in loose boxers the first night.

Ingrown hairs appear in about 30 percent of first-timers, usually three to five days later. They look like small red bumps. Exfoliate gently with a washcloth starting 48 hours after your appointment, and the bumps clear within a week. Our aftercare guide covers this in detail.

Why men choose West Hollywood for this service

Discretion matters. West Hollywood has a long history of private, judgment-free grooming services. IFM is by appointment only—no walk-ins, no overlapping clients. The suite is soundproofed. The entrance is unmarked. Your practitioner has worked with thousands of men, from first-timers to regulars who have waxed for years.

The location also makes logistics simple. IFM is a seven-minute drive from Beverly Hills, ten from Mid-City, and walkable from much of the Sunset Strip. Street parking on Larrabee Street is usually open, and the Pacific Design Center garage is two blocks south.

What to bring and what to skip

Bring nothing but yourself and loose clothing. You do not need to bring wipes, numbing cream, or pain relievers. The practitioner has everything required. If you want to take ibuprofen beforehand, take it 30 minutes before your appointment—but most men find it unnecessary.

Skip the gym that morning. Sweat and friction increase sensitivity. Skip caffeine if you are prone to jitters; adrenaline amplifies sensation. Do not drink alcohol before the appointment. It thins blood and makes you more likely to bruise.

If you are nervous, say so. Rene' adjusts his pace and gives you breaks between sections. There is no timer. The appointment takes as long as it takes.
