The best aftercare for a male Brazilian wax follows a strict timeline: cool the skin in the first 24 hours, avoid friction and heat, wear loose cotton, and start gentle exfoliation on day three. Most redness fades within 12 hours. Bumps or ingrowns appear between days two and five if you skip exfoliation or wear tight clothing too soon.
Hours 0–6: Cool and protect
Leave the salon and go straight home if possible. Your skin is open at the follicle level. Avoid the gym, public pools, and steam rooms for at least 24 hours. Wear loose cotton underwear or athletic shorts. No denim. No compression fabric.
Apply a cold compress if you feel heat or see redness. A damp washcloth from the fridge works. Hold it on the waxed area for five minutes, then let the skin breathe. Do not apply lotion, oil, or fragrance in the first six hours. The follicles are still closing.
Skip the shower if you can wait. If you must rinse, use lukewarm water and no soap on the waxed area. Pat dry with a clean towel. Do not rub.
Hours 6–24: No heat, no friction
This is the window when most irritation develops. Do not take a hot shower, sit in a sauna, or use a heating pad. Heat dilates blood vessels and can trigger inflammation or small red bumps.
Sleep in loose cotton or nothing. If you sleep on your stomach, put a clean towel under your hips. Change your sheets the night of your Brazilian service — fresh linen reduces bacteria contact.
Avoid sexual activity for 24 hours minimum. Friction on freshly waxed skin can cause micro-abrasions or ingrown hairs. If you live in West Hollywood and walk or bike, plan your appointment for an evening when you can stay home afterward.
"Men who follow the 24-hour cooling rule see almost no bumps. The ones who go to the gym that same night or wear tight jeans always call back with questions." — Rene', practitioner
Hours 24–48: Introduce moisture
After 24 hours, you can shower normally. Use a mild, unscented body wash. Avoid anything with alcohol, fragrance, or exfoliating beads. Rinse thoroughly.
Pat the area dry and apply a thin layer of unscented lotion or aloe gel. Look for products with glycerin or hyaluronic acid. These pull moisture into the skin without clogging follicles. Apply twice a day — morning and night.
You can return to light activity. A walk along Santa Monica Boulevard or a short session at the gym is fine. Wear moisture-wicking fabric, not cotton, if you plan to sweat. Shower immediately after and reapply lotion.
Do not exfoliate yet. The skin is still settling. Wait until hour 72.
Hours 48–72: Start exfoliation
This is when you begin the routine that prevents ingrown hairs. Use a gentle physical exfoliant — a soft washcloth, a konjac sponge, or a body scrub with fine grains. Exfoliate in the shower using small circular motions. Cover the entire waxed area, including the shaft, scrotum, and space between the buttocks.
Exfoliate every other day for the first two weeks, then twice a week after that. This lifts dead skin cells and clears the path for new hair to grow straight out of the follicle. Most ingrowns form because the hair curls back under a layer of dead skin.
If you see small red bumps at this stage, they are likely early ingrowns. Do not pick or squeeze. Exfoliate gently and apply a product with salicylic acid or glycolic acid at night. The bumps usually flatten within three days.
You can resume all normal activity by hour 72, including sexual contact, hot yoga, or swimming. If you visit the Pacific Design Center or work out near Beverly Hills, bring a change of clothes so you are not sitting in damp fabric.
What to avoid for the full 72 hours
Do not use retinol, benzoyl peroxide, or any prescription acne treatment on the waxed area. These products thin the skin and increase sensitivity. If you use them on your face, keep them there.
Do not shave between waxing appointments. Shaving disrupts the hair growth cycle and makes your next wax more painful. If you need a touch-up before your next visit to our West Hollywood salon, trim with scissors.
Do not apply deodorant, body spray, or cologne to the waxed area. Alcohol-based products sting and can trigger a rash.
Avoid tight underwear, jockstraps, or shapewear for the full 72 hours. Compression traps heat and bacteria. Loose cotton or modal fabric is the safest choice.
